Well there also exist a german-austria unlimmited rail pass.
So no need to buy a single german and an austrian one...
but anyway... AS long as you don´t plan to travel extensive by train in both countries its not worth the money.
just for example a single train trip freiburg (germany) - Vienna(austria) costs you about 70 euros (about 100 dollars)
While the unlimited rail passes will start... at 400$ minimum

btw are you a EU citizen? Because if so get a INTER rail pass (if you plan to travel alot inside the EU) the EUrail pass is only for none EU citizens (cost a LOT more and you will get the same deal for 2 times the money of the interail ;)
(But as said only citizens of the EU have acces to Interrail)
