I would let the motor idle itself out of gas (none left in carb), let it cool, pull the plugs, put 2 tsp motor oil in each hole (or fog both cylinders), pull starter rope twice, slowly, to distribute oil, then gap and replace plugs.

I have a 2004 Mercury outboard motor, I was fishing the other day and the motor ran fine all day. When I went to load the boat, I put it in?
