Question: Car accident!!! it's been a week - no police report?

Posted: 29 Aug 2014 10:16 PM PDT

so it's been a week since my car accident. there is no police report, me and the lady I hit exchanged information, insurance, and phone numbers. I'm 17 years old new to the road.

I didn't call a police officer, a police officer showed up to the scene and asked if we were okay and we said we were just wrapping up exchanging info we'll be on our way out.

I was leaving the mall parking lot trying to head right as you can only either go left or right. typically roads that are used as entrances to malls have low speed limits right. it was a 10-25 MPH limit as there no way could it be any more. but she was definitely going faster.

there was no stop sign but I stopped anyway to be safe. I yielded one car to the left of me going right, he stopped for me as I proceeded, look to my right didn't see anything, as I'm turning my steering wheel turning left a huge ford van comes fast out of no where at least 30-40 mph...

my car bounces off their left back tire breaking off only some of her fender trim as she's still accelerating fast. she was still accelerating to where I had enough time to back out back into the parking lot and get out to look at my car. that's where she finally stopped and turned around to come talk to me. literally I was devastated cause I was driving my Dads BMW 5 series and it's fairly new and seeing that bumper is hanging on the floor with my headlight broken killed me inside.

can I call insurance at 17 year old a week later? is it my fault cause I was turning?

Question: Almost got into an accident, freaked?

its fine you took a chance but now its over so just move on and learn from your mistakes. we always hear about these kind of stories but honestly you should learn these dangers on the road because most of the time people crash because of driving mistakes but the media always talks about texting and drinking on the road but these are the real dangers:

here are the dangers you need to learn:

1. not checking their blind spot before changing lanes. sometimes it seems like there is no cars in the way because the mirrors can't see everything so you have to check your blind spot.

2. not checking their blink spot while turning on a light or a stop sign and that leads too hitting cyclists and pedestrians.

3.following too close a vehicle in front of you. its bad because if the driver has too stop then you won't have time too stop. the faster you drive the more distance you have to give to the driver in front so you can stop on time especially on the highway.

4. turning left on a green light without being too sure. if you can't see the oncoming traffic because of cars that want to turn left on the oncoming traffic then wait in the middle of the street without blocking the oncoming traffic that wants to turn left until the light becomes red. once your light is red go until the oncoming traffic is stopped.

5. not judging the speed distance before changing lanes. if you switch lanes sometimes it seems like you have enough room to go but if the driver is driving fast then you will be hit because he had no time to stop and this usually happens while turning left on a green light.

6. going through an intersection that has no stop signs or red lights on the oncoming traffic. if its rush hour don't even bother going through it and turn right because your visual is limited and there is too many cars. if a driver is kind enough to let you go its dangerous because you won't be able to see the other lanes and you can get hit easily. if its not rush hour then make sure to judge the vehicle speed distance before going through it and also make sure they are no cyclists or pedestrians before going.

7. merging on the highway without judging vehicle speed distance.

8. driving too fast on rainy days or snowy days. with dangerous weather conditions its best too drive slower than usually and always keep middle lane because it usually the cleanest road. but if there is no middle lane and only 2 lanes then stay on the left lane because off parked cars people put all the snow on the street and it makes it difficult to drive on the right lane.

9. driving on the right lane on streets. it should be only for turning right because if you keep on driving on the right lane you will have to always change lanes because of parked cars or you will have to stop a lot because of cars that want to turn right and sometimes they don't signal and you might hit them if you don't keep a good distance. always drive on the middle lane because left lane will sometimes force you to turn left. if there is only 2 lanes then keep the left lane.

10. changing lanes because a car wants to turn left on a green light. usually a lot of cars behind you will switch lanes on the right because of the driver that wants too turn left on a green light. you will have to judge the vehicle speed distance and make sure no one cuts you off because sometimes the driver behind can put on the gas really fast and if you go at the same time you might get hit. it comes with a lot of experience to be comfortable in that situation.

11. forgetting too signal. if you don't signal a car might hit you behind you if he fails to keep a proper distance or isn't paying attention because he has a lot of things in his mind.

12. driving on the left lane or right lane on the highway. left lane is for passing only. if you stay on the left lane a driver might rear end because people drive so fast and they fail to keep a proper distance. right lane is for slow drivers especially old people but a lot of cars merge onto the highway and its better to avoid them because its safer for you and for them. always drive in the middle lane until you know when too exit. when you know when too exit then try and make sure to get on the right lane 1 minute earlier too not
rush.

Question: How (If I can) do I report this motorcyclist?

How (If I can) do I report this motorcyclist?

I was driving to the store tonight and a motorcycle doing twice the speed I was doing passed me (almost clipped my mirror), passed the car in front of me on the shoulder, then ran the red light just as another car was pulling out causing them to have to hit the brakes. I didn't see his licence plate, but I have the video on my dash cam (Which would have his licence plate as well). How do I go about reporting him/her (If I even can)?

Question: Hi when I am turning a corner should I look in my rearview mirror before I glance at my side mirror?

Posted: 29 Aug 2014 04:03 PM PDT

When you are turning in your lane, there is no need to look in the mirrors. The mirrors are for checking cars from the back.
You focus more on making the turn and whats in front of you. You do have to look out for other cars, cyclists and pedestrians in every directions, but not cars from the back.
I do look in the side mirrors and look to the side windows sometime to make sure the road is cleared to turn and no cars is getting too closed from behind.

Question: Driving test question. how to correctly stop at a stop sign in ca?

Stop a little behind it and creep up to it to help see oncoming traffic ,,, sometimes you will have to creep passed it to see clearly .
