Question: Car in dad's name, but want to move out of state. insurance question?

Only the owner can insure a vehicle, in any state. Paying part of the loan payments doesn't count as being an owner, only being named on the ownership (title) document does.

Her dad is the technical owner, but only the technical stuff counts under the law. If the insurance policy is issued to anyone but the legal owner of a vehicle, it's not valid.

NOTE: Don't fall for any of the online marketing traps used by many unscrupulous insurers. They'll gladly provide an online quote and allow you to "point click save" your way into a contract, but they'll gloss over a lot of the minor technical details when they do it. But then when an accident happens, they'll refuse to pay for anything. And they'll get away with it, because of those little technical details nobody ever reads when they click the accept-button.

You know the details I mean. They're the same ones every online provider lists, and right at the top is a phrase saying "by clicking here, I understand and accept all terms and conditions as stated below" and blah blah blah. But in court, clicking that button means you actually did read all that stuff and understood it completely. You can't accept a list of responsibilities and then un-accept them later because you didn't really read all that stuff.

I've worked in the insurance business for 15 years, and I've personally seen dozens of people burned by online providers that way. You'd think there should be a law preventing companies for doing that, but there already is: It's called don't sign a contract you didn't read.

Question: My points were put on my paper licence last month its been done in blue pen is that standard practice seems a bit wrong?

Let's see... you can't use basic punctuation, you don't seem to have the slightest understanding of how demerit points work or even what they are, but you know what the correct procedures are for them?

Sure, I can buy that. You're right, it's wrong. They should have used a red pen.

Question: How long do I have to wait to get my license if I got my permit when I was 18?

Posted: 28 Aug 2014 02:30 AM PDT

I was 18 when I got my permit :P I am 19 now and I have a license! Just got it last month! Anyways, in my state (Maryland) you have to wait 9 months after you get your permit (unless you are 25) even if you are over 18. Most states aren't as strict as Maryland though. Most states, you can get your license the same day or like a week after you get your permit when over 18. It would have helped if you listed what state you reside in!
