Question: Sportsbike for Big Guys?

Posted: 23 Aug 2014 11:57 PM PDT

Sport bikes are for racing. Air drag matters. A big rider on a big bike, with the same engine as a small rider is a small bike. is going to lose. Every time. You block too much air to win. They make bikes that win. They do not make bikes for big losers.

Just like I wanted a Dual Sport bike for the streets. Dual Sports are killer city bikes -- don't care about bad pavement, pot holes, curbs, those silly lain telephone poles they want to keep people in/out of parking lots .... But I have a 30" inseam and dual sports have 35" high saddles.

Question: I have a 49cc moped the compression is at 70 pounds of pressure and calls for 10:1 is it low on compression?

Question: Do you think my first bike should be a 125cc motorcycle or a 150cc motorcycle?

Your height makes very little difference, apart from being able to put at least one* foot on the ground while sitting in the saddle. I doubt there are many road legal bikes where this would present a problem for 5' 8".

*most novices prefer two feet.

Question: Which dual sport should I get?

I'm looking at getting a dual sport bike so I can drive on and off road (my friend and I hit the trails a lot but I want something for the city too).

I like Yamahas and Hondas, and could care less for Suzuki and Kawasaki. I want one that would handle more difficult trails/hills, so I'm thinking something among the line of the DRZ400/440 or the XR650 (the 250 might be a bit small), but I am interested in your opinions/recomendations.

Question: Is the xr250r a good bike?

Is the xr250r a good bike?

I am 5'6 and 115 pounds or somewhere around there and I'm looking to get an xr250r for my first dirt bike. I hear these bikes are very good. Will I be to small for this bike? Is there aftermarket products that I can put on the bike to improve performance? I want a bike I can grow into. I also do not want to race just have my own fun in the dirt.

Question: In the usa why dont we have 125 cc sports bikes?

When I was a teenager, in the 1960s, Honda (and later Suzuki, etc.) pulled off a revolution, introducing small motorcycles for zipping around town. The smallest were 50cc, really like mopeds. My generation learned to ride on 80s, 90s, 125s, 150s, etc., and then moved up to 350s, 500s, etc.

Today there's no market for little bikes. In most of the US, if you can't go on the highway, you can't get anywhere! A 125 would be okay around town for one person, but apparently people who want something really small and simple and cheap like that get a scooter today.

In much of the world--India, Thailand, Vietnam, China, etc.--small motorcycles are cheap, practical basic transportation. In the west, in the rich countries, motorcycles are recreation devices, not transportation devices. I was in Mexico a few weeks ago and I saw a lot of 125cc bikes there (along with the expected 750s and larger).
