Question: Is it good to refuel my car using fuel from different brands?

Posted: 19 Aug 2014 09:47 AM PDT

It won't make any difference at all.

If you ever go to an oil refinery, you can watch all the different tankers, loading up from the same storage point. It doesn't matter where you buy your fuel from, it all comes from the same place.

The only difference is in the additvies that each company puts into their fuel, AFTER the tanker has loaded up. And whether or not those additvies really make any difference at all, is a moot point...

Question: What happens when people or an unmarked cop take a picture of your license plate while you're driving down the road?

What happens when people or an unmarked cop take a picture of your license plate while you're driving down the road?

Okay so I'm a college student, and earlier I was at a red light of an intersection between an on campus road and an off campus road. The other side still had a red light so I went ahead and turned right. Suddenly there was a big truck behind me and I honestly don't know how they got there so fast. Either they were above the 15 mph speed limit or they turned behind me. Well the driver in the mirror looked really mad, so I started to wonder why, and as I'm going down the road, he and his passenger pull out their phones and attempt to take pictures of my license plate.

I sped up a little so I don't even know if they got the pictures, but they made no attempt to pull me over or follow me. I know that if it is a random citizen reporting my license plate, nothing will happen. But if it just so happened to be an off duty cop in his personal vehicle, can he mail me a ticket for an infraction I'm not even aware of? I really didn't do anything wrong. I turned right on red. But still, a cop's word against a college student's will always win.

For all I know he'll say I failed to yield or stop at a red light even though I know I did.

So should my family back home be expecting a ticket in the mail? And is there really any way for me to know if it was a cop or not?

Question: What is your dream car? Why?

Mclaren MP4-12C Spider in Volcano Red.

when the 12C came out, it was designed to compete with the Ferrari 458 Italia. the 12C is lighter, more rigid, with a smaller engine that produces more power and torque while using less fuel and generating fewer emissions. the suspension is completely active meaning it can be much more comfortable (smooth over bumps) as well as sporty (stiff while cornering) than the Ferrari. the mclaren accelerates faster, has a higher top speed, handles better and brakes faster. the best part is that it does this using much more modern technology than the Ferrari for a lower price.

as for the color, when I first saw mclarens' volcano red, it looked amazing. the paint looked deep and complex like I was staring at a color and texture I'd never before seen. i literally stared at the car for a solid 5 minutes before asking a ton of questions to the sales associate showing the car at the auto show.

I just love the sheer attention to detail that mclaren has given to the car. for example, most cars have a fuel filler door with a screw on cap beneath. not mclaren. rather than making a cap, they made the door seal the pipe to the tank for lower weight.
Beneath the front bumper there are tiny little bumps that help to straighten out the air going beneath the car (almost like little fins). this means that the rear diffuser is much more effective at generating downforce.
Even the positioning of the exhaust. most cars have it placed low, close to the ground but the mclarens' is high. why waste the materials and weight making pipes that go down when straight out is shorter and lets the diffuser be bigger for more downforce?
same thing with the rear spoiler. rather than having a big enough electric motor to push it upright completely, redesign the hinge to be farther back so that with air pressure and a bit of movement, the spoiler extends completely? this means that you can use a smaller electric motor to save weight.

I could go on forever about the littlest detail of the car but I think I've made my point.

here in canada where I live, you can find a 12C spider for $335,000 CAD ($305,000 USD)

Question: What is this caliper off of?

Posted: 19 Aug 2014 08:56 AM PDT

I'm working on a 1932 Model A kit car, the customer knows nothing about it. Can someone identity this caliper so I can get pads. The current pads are somewhat square and slide in the top with pins through them. Thank you.

Question: Is it ok for a guy to drive a red car?

Posted: 19 Aug 2014 08:45 AM PDT

I don't know why red is normally associated with females, but I guess if you're worried about what other people think than don't buy a red car.

Buy a boring old beige chevy impala and live life safe from ever being ridiculed of having a "gay" car.

Of course that was sarcasm. Buy a car because YOU like it and it fits your needs. Everyone has a stereotype about certain cars (ie: rednecks drive big trucks, or guys with little confidence drive big trucks so they can look tough, poor people drive old cheap cars, gay people drive jetta's, and every 4 cylinder Japanese manufactured car is for girls.)

Drive what looks and feels good to you.
