Question: What causes traffic jams? Posted: 03 Sep 2014 02:04 PM PDT When there are a good amount of people on the road, it makes people drive closer to each other because they have no other choice. This consequently causes people to change lanes to try make their way through traffic. When someone changes lanes, it causes the car behind them to slow down after they get cut off. This makes the car behind the person that got cut off slow down too.. It then starts a chain reaction until the cars slow down to 20mph or a complete standstill. This is why random traffic jams pop out of nowhere on weekends. If people just kept a set distance with the car in front of them and not change lanes, then they'd have no problem |
