Question: Does looking far ahead of the car help stay centered in the lane?

YES it helps. You to where you want to go. You look first look about two to three seconds ahead at the car in front of you. You then look about 12 seconds ahead at traffic and road further ahead to prepare for things. Like a changing traffic light.

It takes a while to get used to looking further ahead as you drive faster.
STOP looking at the front of the car. Look at the road in front of you. Start with 2-3 seconds ahead.

When people tailgate you, do you think it's funny and then slow down even more?

I never just cruise in the left lane, but if I'm going as fast as I can, and there's a car in front of me, and someone still tailgates me, I just slow down for fun. Do you? What do you think tailgaters hope to accomplish?
