Cars & Transportation: Rail: “Question: Are there two types of Kings Cross Stations in London?” plus 3 more

Question: Are there two types of Kings Cross Stations in London?

Posted: 04 Oct 2014 12:21 PM PDT

King's Cross and St Pancras are separate mainline stations. They're very close to each other (literally on opposite sides of a road) but separate stations. King's Cross also has a tube station underneath it that has a tunnel leading to St Pancras.

Your friend is wrong. To get a train to Manchester you need to go to St Pancras mainline station.

Question: Are train tickets expensive from London to Birmingham?

Posted: 04 Oct 2014 04:02 AM PDT

The cheapest tickets are those booked well in advance for specifically timed trains. Booking opens 11 weeks ahead of your journey.
London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street Chiltern Railways One way tickets from £6 www.chilternrailways.co.uk
or the ticket office at Marylebone Station. every 30 minutes. Takes 2 hours or a little less
London Euston to Birmingham New Street Virgin Trains every 20 minutes, Takes 83 minutes www.virgintrains.co.uk or the ticket office at Euston Station from £9.50 one way
I wouldn't bother with London Midland if I were you. They are much slower.
Whether you book in advance or not get a further 34% discount with a railcard www.railcard.co.uk
