Question: Any Norfolk southern train conductors? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 04:31 PM PDT Any Norfolk southern train conductors? I just received a conditional job offer for the conductor position. I would like to get a better insight on the pay, benefits, and exactly how the training goes? |

Question: Travelling from Frankfurt to Eltz Burg by train? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 01:43 PM PDT Travelling from Frankfurt to Eltz Burg by train? Hi, is it possible for me and my 4 friends to buy the Hessen ticket and the Rhineland-Palatinate ticket to travel from Frankfurt to Eltz Burg or must we buy the Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket for the trip? The reason is that we still need a ticket to travel by tram to and from the Hotel to the main train station and with the Hessen ticket, the tram would be covered by the Hessen ticket. |
Question: Can a town stop trains for events like parades? Posted: 13 Oct 2014 11:21 AM PDT I don't live in Illinois, I don't think they cannot stop train b/c they don't own them. CSX and Union Pacific, Amtrak train carries lots of foods, and passengers. If train service was halted by parade, there might be no food, or tourism. Trains need to be kept running. Other thing maybe you could ask organizer of parade if they could change the course that wouldn't require crossing train track. Similar to this topic, abused Ringling Brother Circus pulls longest train to station properly near bus depot in Garden City, and animals and performancers parade to coliseum from train station to coliseum. |
Question: Union pacific train crew school california? Posted: 12 Oct 2014 08:30 PM PDT They will give you everything you need for class. You're not asking for study guides with the answers already there are you? If so, that's a mistake. You will learn the rules much better by actually studying the GCOR. Source(s):UPRR engineer |
Posted: 12 Oct 2014 06:37 PM PDT Shane's answer is pretty close. The part about making 100k after your first year is wrong though. Whoever told him that is lying. New hires generally get stuck on yard extra boards. 50k is a much more reasonable expectation. And Shane don't believe the part about not as many furloughs on the UP either. The railroads are ruthless when it comes to cutting off employees. Where I work in Texas they usually cut 20 at a time when things get slow. My son hired out in 2011 and if he makes it to the end of the year it will be his first year without being furloughed. Last year he was furloughed about 5 months and the year before that even longer. It's a good job though and worth grinding through the furloughed time you'll get. The training period is much longer than 4 weeks. You start with 3 weeks of classroom, then do OJT,then back to class for conductors training, then more OJT,then back to class for RCO(remote control),followed by more OJT. THEN, you get to mark up and start working for 85 percent pay. When you actually mark up, you start a probationary period called the derail. At any time before you're over the derail the railroad can let you go without any explanation. You're not protected by the union til you're over that derail period.
