Question: Turning left across an intersection question? Posted: 18 Aug 2014 11:55 PM PDT There is a 2 lane road thay crosses a 4 lane highway with a grass median section on the middle. One of the roads is slightly angled about 10 degrees different than the other. When I am turning left to head south and I meet someone turning left to the north from the opposite direction what is the appropriate method for turning.. do I pull up with the car to my left and do we turn left after passing each other or do we turn left while passing each other on the right side. I have always felt like the latter is the corrwct and thats how its done at ecery other intersection in town but I have almost hit people several times trying to turn left in front of them instead of behind. This happens and due tobrhe road angle I even find myself coming from the other direction that the staying tobtye right and turning behind the other car feels more natural but only at that intersection. I cant find a law for my state (indiana) anywhere. Any help would be awesome |
Question: Public bus turning right of way? Posted: 18 Aug 2014 11:24 PM PDT Public bus turning right of way? If you are legally stopped at a red light meaning behind the line if there is one and a public bus turns into your neighboring lane but misjudges their turn or the turn is tight itself, do you legally have to back up to prevent the collision or would the public bus be held responsible. I have been told that you put yourself at risk of doing more damage if you reverse, (causing a collision with another car, making the commercial vehicle collide with you or another object, etc) and to stay where you are if you get hit you get hit. I live in Indiana I don't know if DOT regulations differ from state to state on this but I figured it would be helpful. |
Posted: 18 Aug 2014 10:58 PM PDT Check your state's laws. This is for WA state where I live " The operator of an approaching vehicle shall stop and remain stopped to allow a pedestrian or bicycle to cross the roadway within an unmarked or marked crosswalk when the pedestrian or bicycle is upon or within one lane of the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling or onto which it is turning. " That said, unless they stepped off very quickly I would likely make the turn first as long as I could finish it before they entered my side of the road. If they have to pause because you are turning through the intersection, you're going to get a ticket here if a police officer sees you. |
Question: Are classic cars safe? Posted: 18 Aug 2014 08:26 PM PDT I rather doubt that the Fury has fittings on the "B" pillar for 3-point belts. Good luck with that. The car is about as safe as it was in 1967. There have been a lot of safety improvements in automotive engineering since then, ABS, air bags, crumple zones, and the big safety improvement of better handing in extreme conditions. I learned how to drive in a car of that vintage, and I didn't kill myself. Would I let my own kid use a car of that age as a daily driver? Not if there are better and safer alternatives, and today, there are. |
