| Question: What causes valve clearances to go out of spec on sportbikes? Posted: 15 Aug 2014 07:57 PM PDT this is a common problem for most dual overhead cam motors. Even when the you have the great motor oils of today friction is still a problem and wears down parts the high internal heat also help along the erosion process. when and if you take the cams off of the heads you will see the top of the valve spring which consists of usually 2 parts a cup that fits on top of and around the the valve spring and a disc which can be milled down to different thicknesses. These discs control the clearance the cam has from the valve spring and are often made of a slightly softer metal to prevent damage to the camshaft. Over time the cam wears away the disc and the clearance becomes larger. Hope this answers your question. |
| Question: What kind of bike is an hd xr1200? Posted: 15 Aug 2014 06:43 PM PDT HD was quick to discontinue The XR... It had the production spawn of only 3 or so years. Didn't sell well, obviously! Why? Take a look at Ducati Monster 1100 EVO and you'll understand why! Ducati was CHEAPER, reliable, lighter and bit faster @ 100BHP. And its exhaust note... WOW!!! Truly soul stirring... |

The spark plug and coil are fine, because they were tested on a different bike. The cdi box I just bought and it still won't work. The magneto I got one day before it stopped working so what else could it be by the way the timing is perfect so that's not it either |
| Question: Why won't my bike start? Posted: 15 Aug 2014 05:58 PM PDT 1994 DR350 (Dirt version converted into street legal bike) I would start the bike and it would be fine for a while. Then I open the throttle the engine would just die and wouldn't rev at all. (I do this while I'm still on neutral) It would keep happening. Then eventually it wouldn't start at all. I changed the oil already, changed the oil filter, changed the spark plug (the old one was really bad), I did all that and then it still doesn't start. It also had a sticky throttle and I fixed that too. It's a kickstart so you can imagine my frustration haha What could be happening? |
